Sponsor one of our friendly FeLV+ cats
Feline leukemia virus (FeLV) is a retrovirus that infects cats. FeLV is usually transmitted between infected cats when the transfer of saliva or nasal secretions is involved, for example when sharing a feeding dish. If not defeated by the animal’s immune system, the virus can be lethal.
Most shelters will test for feline leukemia and put the cats to sleep which are positive. AWARE used to take part in this practice years ago, until Xenii had a cat that lived happily for 15 years with FeLV. Since then, we have built a separate enclosure for our FeLV+ cats, to give them a chance to live.
We are one of the few shelters that does this, though our FeLV+ cats here are very difficult to find homes for. Sponsorship would be greatly appreciated. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in sponsoring one of these wonderful cats.
